About A Literary Apothecary

Welcome to A Literary Apothecary!

My name is AfterPlague, and I’m the sole writer for every review and article you see on this blog. I started out posting my reviews on websites like GoodReads and StoryGraph, but as the reviews grew longer and more in depth, I needed a platform with a bit more flexibility. Enter, A Literary Apothecary.

I have strong opinions on books, and I firmly believe in a reader’s right to discuss and critique literature. I’ve been told I can come off a bit harsh, but I always try to explain my rationale to the best of my ability. I want authors to succeed and write brilliant books. All of us win when there are more good stories.

And so, I’d like to make a couple promises to you, the reader.

  1. I will always try to be as fair as possible to every book I review. Every book has something good going for it. I will absolutely acknowledge the good with the bad.
  2. I promise to always provide my complete and honest thoughts about the book. I’m not going to be swayed by allegiance, public opinion, or any monetary gain. I want this to be a space that you can trust to find informative reviews.
  3. I will never use AI during any part of my process. I don’t use it for any of my writing or article planning. I don’t use it for any images. If you do notice that the background of an image seems to be AI, notify me, and I will get it replaced ASAP. I believe AI has absolute NO part in the writing process, including cover design.

In conjunction with the website, I run a book club, also titled A Literary Apothecary. This club has existed since the beginning of 2026 and has been a very successful way to discuss books with other lovers of the spooky, horrifying, and macabre. I’m someone who would attend book clubs but was too nervous to speak up in real time, so in my book club readers have the option to either join a live chat or write out their thoughts and opinions at their own pace.

To join the book club, click either of the two links above. The BookClubs.com profile is primarily used for voting on new books, suggesting future book club selections, or writing long form reviews. The Discord has a more casual tone with channels for real time notes, discussion threads, and voice chats to speak live with other members.

Whatever way you like to review books, A Literary Apothecary has a place for you!

About AfterPlague

I’ve always been a reader. Ever since I can remember, I’ve devoured every book I could get my hands on, and I placed a lot of my identity into being a reader. Like many others, though, I dropped off of reading around the time I went to university. I was so busy and tired, and most of my reading ended up being a part of my course work.

After graduation, I found BookTube, Bookstagram, and BookTok, and seeing the excitement with which these creators spoke about reading, I was inspired to pick up the habit again. Obviously, my love of reading returned quickly, and I wanted to share my thoughts and opinions with the wider book community because I have A LOT of them!

If I’m not writing articles for this blog, then I’m likely either working on making new YouTube videos for my channel or creating my next work of art! If you’d like to see what else I’m working on, you can check it out on my YouTube channel: AfterPlague.

I’m going to be uploading video versions of the reviews on this blog sometime in the next few months, so stay tuned if you’re more of a listener! (I get it; we’ve all got laundry to do!)
